What is the scheme?
The CM Punjab Electric Bike Scheme 2026 is a welfare programme by the Government of the Punjab, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Its goal is to make transport affordable for young people by giving them brand-new electric and petrol bikes on easy, interest-free monthly installments.
For many middle-class families, buying a bike in one payment is very hard. This scheme breaks the cost into a small down payment and monthly installments (kist), while the government pays the bank markup and adds a subsidy of up to Rs 70,000 on electric bikes.
Why it was started
The scheme has three simple goals:
- Help students travel: so young people can reach college and university safely and on time.
- Save money: electric bikes cost only a few rupees to charge, saving thousands on fuel every month.
- Cleaner air: electric bikes produce no smoke, which helps reduce smog and pollution in Punjab.
Phases of the scheme
Phase 1 was limited to students in five cities — Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur — and distributed around twenty thousand bikes.
Phase 2 is a major expansion. It now covers all 36 districts of Punjab and aims to provide around 100,000 bikes in one year, including both electric and petrol options. Teachers registered under the School Education Department can also apply through a separate portal.
Who runs it?
The scheme is a Government of the Punjab initiative. Financing, verification and installments are handled by the Bank of Punjab. This makes the process transparent and government-supervised. You apply free of cost on the official portal — there are no agents and no hidden fees.
